Back together again!

One week ago we discovered a leak in our walls, water damage and mold was under the wood flooring and in the sheet rock. The property management company finished repairs yesterday, we got new carpet in the living room so good deal! Nice to have our house back together again!

Family Outing

Today we drove to Loon Lake which is near the town of Scottsburg and about 20 miles inland from the coast. History lesson time-It's a mountain lake that was formed 3,000 years ago when the east facing part of the coastal range gave way too massive landslides, 20 ton boulders traveling 1 mile down, dammed a creek. The lake was eventually filled by the heavy fall and winter rains. Loon Lake got its name in the 1850's when men traveling in the area with commercial lumber trade discovered it and named the lake after the common Loon Duck which nests in the area. Loon lake is approx 1/2 mile wide and 3 miles long with depths of 240 feet. We had a great time relaxing and catching a few fish, afterwords we headed to the lodge which overlooks the lake and ate lunch. The area is complete with camp sites, lodging, a store with beer!, boat rentals (paddle boats, jet skis, a jet boat, pontoon boat) and cabins. (15ft fishing boat with an outboard motor sounds like fun) Just an awesome mountain resort! It's a great area, great people and beautiful scenery. What a way to recharge your batteries! Sure we'll be back again! Look forward to taking family and friends there sometime. Hope everyone had a good weekend, take care. The Yates'

Home sweet home!!

Early in the week we discovered that the outside facet had been leaking inside the wall which ran down under the flooring. Mold got in the dry wall and sub flooring! What a mess. We've had to stay in a hotel for a few nights until the property management company makes repairs. Great times!

Happy 5th Birthday Harrison!

Sept 22nd was Harrison's 5th birthday, he's all grown up! We all went to Chucky Cheese for pizza and games! Grant really liked the supreme pizza, ate almost a whole pie. Thanks everyone for the gifts and birthday cards. Take care.

On the water!

Harrison and Daddy put together a way to get out on the water without actually buying a boat (which will hopefully happen next summer!) It's a Sevylor 9' inflatable raft complete with a 30lb thrust trolling motor! Just big enough to hold one adult, one child and some gear. Plan on testing it out this weekend on the lake.

Father & son time!

Sunday Beau and Harrison went fishing for the first time since moving to Oregon. They went to Cottage Grove lake and a nearby river-had a few bites but didnt catch any fish. A many a fishing trips are planned in the future. We are so thankful to live where we do, what beautiful peaceful scenery everywhere you look! The trolling motor for the inflatable boat should be here this week, that means this weekend the boys will venture out on the lakes under other then oar power! More pictures to come with that hobby! We miss everyone, take care...

Catchin' Crab's-Winchester Bay

Another good week for the Yates'. Weather was rainy and overcast for a few days (was told we are getting a taste of what winter feels like here) then it was mild and sunny-perfect weather with no wind, we couldnt ask for anything better weather wise. The Yates family took another trip to the coast Saturday and went crabbing in Winchester Bay. The area always seems to have decent weather, it was mid 60's not a cloud in the sky and minimal wind-a perfect day to be outside on the coast! We caught 5 keepers along with one huge crab-biggest one yet! After crabbing for the better part of the day we had lunch on the beach then Harrison and Dad fished off the Jetty-didnt catch anything but they had fun trying out their new fishing gear! Sunday involves a lot of football watching-a few cold beers-hot wings and maybe a trip out to the lake this afternoon to fish again. Here in a few weeks we plan on exploring down south on HWY 101 into Coos Bay-North Bend and Gold Beach area, maybe hit the red wood national forest-we also still want to see Crater Lake sometime soon. Hope everyone had a great weekend and has a better week! Take care! Here

Boating-Cottage Grove Lake

To solve the "we want a boat but dont have a boat yet" issue we got a 9 foot inflatable raft instead....for now! Harrison and Beau gave it a try this weekend. They went about 1 mile down the shore line then paddled back up to the car, Harrison thought it was pretty fun! Next time we'll have a trolling motor instead of paddles and our fishing license! We intend to go out again this up and coming weekend!

Crabbing-Winchester Bay

Tim & Eileen came to visit us recently, one of the highlights was a drive to the coast and crabbing off a dock in Winchester Bay, OR. The dock stretches about 200 yards into the bay, far enough to throw traps where the keepers are! We used our "Crab Hawk" trap for the first time which attaches to a fishing pole and "cast" out instead of just throwing pot or ring traps. Caught a few with the Crab Hawk and had two keepers but didnt have the right rod and reel, fixed that problem and we'll be ready for the next crabbing adventure this coming weekend! Hope everyone had a great week! Take care.
